One person has been killed and three others left in critical condition at the St Dominic Hospital in Akwatia, in the Eastern Region, after a private Toyota saloon car with registration number UE 425-13 run into them at the Akwatia lorry station on Tuesday July 26.
The victims were all workers at the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in Akwatia.
An eyewitness, Odiasempa Kwadwo Agyei, told ClassFMonline.com that the driver, who fled after the accident had occurred, was not an experienced driver, but got hold of the keys to the vehicle, which belonged to his friend.
Upon hearing the incident, the real owner of the vehicle quickly rushed to the hospital to visit the victims, but was told one of them whose name was given as Musa, 60, had died while the three others were in critical condition.
The matter has been reported to the Police in Akwatia.
