Some angry residents of Akyem Sankubenase in the Atiwa District of the Eastern region are up in arms with their chief, Osabarima Asiedu Boafo II, demanding accountability from proceeds of monies he allegedly took from illegal miners including Chinese Nationals.

The subjects allege that, their Chief brought illegal miners to the town including Chinese nationals, took huge amounts from them before they were permitted to mine gold in the area, however, the Chief has failed to render account to the community, neither has he embarked on any developmental project out of the proceeds.

Eastern region is notorious for illegal mining canker which has caused destruction to farmlands and polluted several river bodies.

The fight against the menace has not been successful due to the alleged involvement of some prominent personalities in society including chiefs and politicians.

The revelation of the residents of Akyem Sankubenase seemingly establish fact of some chiefs aiding in the illegal galamsey activities .

Efforts made to get the reaction of Akyem Sankubenase Chief, Osabarima Asiedu Boafo II was not successful.
