Dr Fredrick Yao Mac-Palm together with his alleged accomplices in the controversial attempted coup at the presidency, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has said, have a huge hurdle to cross in terms of exonerating themselves from the allegations levelled against them.

According to him, he is very much convinced that those suspects were indeed planning something evil against the republic.

“The first set of suspects, I am convinced in my small corner that they have a huge hurdle cross. I’m not saying they are guilty because I’m not a judge nor a court but as a layman, a student of intelligence, a student of Ghanaian political history and an interrogator of coup plots whether failed or successful,” he said.

Kweku Baako Jnr on Metro TV’s ‘Good Morning Ghana’ indicated that due to some audio-visual evidence available to him, it will be difficult for him to believe that Dr Mac-Palm and co will not be guilty.

“…I have seen with my eyes video; I have heard with my ears audio that first set…the WhatsApp group was infiltrated, the soldiers that the doctor contacted and was dealing with, some of them became members of the group but they were informants,” he said.

He added that the doctor was engaged in all sorts of discussions and negotiations with the soldiers who had joined the group.

He indicated that the presence of ACP Benjamin Agordzo in Dr Mac-Palm’s WhatsApp group is not all that sufficient to incriminate him (Agordzo) in relation to a coup.

Dr Mac-Palm together with two others; Ezor Kafui and Bright Allan Debrah Ofosu, were on Friday, September 20 picked up by a joint team from the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for allegedly plotting a coup against the presidency with the intent of destabilising the state of Ghana.

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, in a press release revealed how State Agencies detected and foiled a planned attack on the Jubilee House leading to the retrieval of several arms, explosive devices and ammunition from Alajo, Bawaleshie and Dodowa.

Following the alleged coup attempt, the three accused persons were arraigned before the Kaneshie District Court and slapped with five charges. Some of the charges they are faced with are conspiracy to commit crimes; manufacturing of arms and ammunition without lawful authority; possession of explosives and firearms without lawful excuse; and manufacture of firearms without lawful authority.
