Alavanyo Chiefs call for resumption of peace talks

The chiefs and people of Alavanyo on Wednesday re-emphasised the need for the resumption of peace talks to find a lasting solution to the Alavanyo–Nkonya conflict which had increased tensions in the area.

This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Kodzo Homenya, a Youth Leader at Alavanyo, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra.

It said it was only through consultations and mutual dialogue that could solve the conflict and appealed to President Mahama to intervene immediately to guarantee their safety and security. .

The statement entreats government and other law enforcement agencies involved in resolving the conflict to call on the people of Nkonya to come back to the negotiation table for peace to prevail.

It indicated that though they appreciate efforts being made by the police and military personnel patrolling the area, their activities should be fair and impartial so that proper investigations could be conducted for their people who were arrested to be released.

Mr Homenya appealed to the media to be circumspect in their reportage to avoid inflaming the already existing tension, adding that, the Mediation Committee and the people of Ghana should support the peace process with funding to enable them to continue with the peace-building process.
