Spokesperson for Alban Bagbin’s campaign team, Isaac Kpogeh has revealed delegates of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are appreciating the message from their camp.

His comments come on the heels of a research conducted by policy Think Tank, Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) that indicates former President John Dramani Mahama is fast losing his control and influence in the party he led four years ago.

The research which sampled views of party branch executives across the country reveals that many respondents indicated they voted against candidates who were associated with former president Mahama, in the party’s internal elections held recently.

Executive Secretary of ASEPA, Mensah Thompson who spoke on ‘Ghana te sen’ with host Kwame Minkah contended that based on their findings, it is safe to conclude that John Mahama is losing his control in the NDC.

He was, however, quick to add that candidate Mahama is tipped to win the party’s Presidential race as many responded “yes” when asked who is likely to win the contest, adding that it wouldn’t be by a landslide margin as candidates Alban Bagbin, Spio Gabrah and the other candidates will share a chunk of his votes.

Bagbin’s Confidence

But Mr Kpogeh, who has been following Mr Bagbin on his campaign tour, observed the Member of Parliament for Nadowli/Kaleo, has a great chance of winning following his experience in governance gathered over the years in Parliament and from other offices he has held in the country.

“Alban Bagbin is a fine gentleman…He assumed leadership since 2001,” he said as he reiterated the confidence the delegates have in the former Health Minister who he said is passionate about strengthening the structures of the NDC from the branch level to the national level.

Mr Bagbin, he said, was focused on strengthening the pillars that hold the NDC grassroots together and giving them hope.

“After every session with the delegates, we give them room to ask questions…and they are so elated about it,” he added.

Isaac also stated that the team which recently toured the Western Region, told Kwame Minkah they were prepared to work hard to gunner votes from the remaining loyal voters of former President Mahama to ensure a win for candidate Bagbin.

“He wants to give power to the grassroots and include all on board to win power for the NDC,” he added.
