Alcoholic brutalizes mother, sister

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), April 7, GNA - Evans Kwasi, a known alcoholic at Dormaa-Ahenkro, has been remanded for two weeks by a circuit court for assault and threatening to kill his mother and younger sister. He will re-appear on April 17.

Police Chief Inspector Matthew Yeboah told the court presided by Mr. Justice Vincent Carl Senu that the accused was a carpenter's apprentice and often got drunk.

He said on March 30 Kwasi returned from his usual drinking spree and accused his younger sister of being the cause of all his the troubles and beat her.

Inspector Yeboah said when his mother tried to rescue the girl Kwasi turned his anger on her and pushed her to the ground. A report was made to the police and Kwasi was arrested but was later granted police enquiry bail upon a request by his stepfather for an amicable settlement at home, Chief Inspector Yeboah said. He said when the accused got back home he declared "war" on the household, causing some of them to flee for safety. The prosecutor said this act angered the stepfather who caused the police to re-arrest him.
