Kumasi, July 9, GNA- A Group calling itself the Concerned New Patriotic Party (NPP) Muslims in the Brong-Ahafo Region, has suggested that Alhaji Moctar Bamba should be the running mate to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer for the 2008 Election. It said the party had reached the cross-roads in its progress and that the leadership must be circumspect in choosing a running mate to its flag bearer.
Alhaji Shaibu Musah, spokesperson for the group, said these at a press conference on Tuesday in Kumasi.
He said it was important for the NPP to select Alhaji Bamba, former Member of Parliament (MP) for Wenchi-East and Deputy Minister for Presidential Affairs as the running mate because he was well-versed in the party's tradition, principles, ideologies and mission statement. Alhaji Musah said the former MP stood tall and far ahead of other persons proposed for the running mate slot.
"Alhaji Bamba is not only charismatic but also a founding member of the NPP who had gone through the mill and as a result was in close contact with the people especially at the grassroots", the spokespersons said. He said Alhaji Bamba is "just, fair, outspoken, approachable and human centered and could therefore partner Nana Akufo-Addo effectively to enhance the party's chances in the 2008 election."
Alhaji Musah cautioned NPP supporters to remain united and not to allow the race for the running mate slot divide the rank and file of the party.
He said the NPP was poised to chalk a landslide victory in the 200-8 December slot in view of the sound socio-economic policies and programmes the party had laid.
