Alidu elected NDC Parliamentary candidate for Walewale

Walewale (NR), March 19, GNA - Mr Iddrisu Zakari Alidu, a teacher at the Business Secondary School in Tamale was on Tuesday elected as the National Democratic Congress (NDC), parliamentary candidate for Walewale at the party's primaries held at Walewale.

He polled 152 out of the 186 valid votes cast to beat his only challenger, Mr Emmanuel Yidana Gumah, Registrar at the Nanumba Traditional Council who had 34 votes.

Mr F. A. Adams, West Mamprusi District Supervising Officer of the Electoral Commission who oversaw the election, declared Mr Alidu winner. Mr Alidu thanked the party delegates for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work harder than before to ensure the party's victory in the constituency both at the parliamentary and presidential elections. He said his first priority would be to help the communities to get potable water and urged the electorate to work tirelessly in ensuring that the NDC was given the mandate to run the affairs of government. Mr Yidana Gumah who lost the slot to Mr Alidu, pledged to collaborate with the rank and file of the party in the constituency to work collectively to unseat the NPP in the December polls.

He appealed to the electorate to register massively as the surest way to vote the NDC back to power.
