Aliu arrives in Qatar for official visit

Accra, May 10, GNA- Vice President Aliu Mahama arrived in the Qatari capital of Doha, on Monday, with a Government Delegation, for a three-day official at the invitation of the Crown Prince of the oil-rich country, Sheikh Jassin Bin Hammad Al-Thani.

Sultan Bin Hassan Aldousari, Minister of Municipality Affairs and Agriculture with Mr Ibrahim Ahmed Malki, Deputy Director of Protocol, met the Vice President on arrival at the Doha International Airport, which hoisted Ghana's flag alongside the Qatari one.

The visit, intended to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries with focus on trade and investment, will also promote cultural and technical cooperation.

Ghana's Mission in Saudi Arabia has a concurrent accreditation to the State of Qatar because of Accra's good diplomatic relations with Doha.

However, the economic cooperation between Ghana and Qatar has been virtually non-existent.

Consequently, the Qatari Chamber of Commerce and the Qatar Industrial Manufacturing Company with the authority to oversee all industrial projects in that country, have expressed interest in considering joint ventures between the two countries.

Two protocols are, therefore, expected to be signed between the respective Chamber of Commerce of both countries as well as the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Qatar Football Association (QFA). Vice President Mahama would hold high-level meetings with his host, Sheikh Bin Hammad Al-Thani and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hammad Bin Khalif Al-Thani and other key Ministers of State.

He would also hold a business forum with Qatari businessmen, industry captains and investors.

The Ghanaian Community in Qatar will also have discussions with him. The Vice President, with his delegation, will also visit industrial establishments, educational institutions and charitable organizations in Qatar.

The delegation includes the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Akwasi Osei Adjei, the Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and PSI, Hajia Alima Mahama and the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Mr Kwasi Abeasi, The Chairman of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce, Mr Solomon Abam Quartey and some officials of Foreign Affairs Ministry are also among. Dr Ahmed Razak Hassan Tahir, Ghana's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia with Embassy officials were also at the airport to welcome the Vice President.
