Aliu calls for reconciliation in Dagbon

Yendi (N/R), Dec. 2, GNA - Vice President Aliu Mahama on Wednesday appealed to the people of Dagbon to reconcile to pave the way for progress in the area.

He told a large crowd at the forecourt of the Mosque after receiving a tumultuous welcome to Yendi that unity for lasting peace to prevail was the only way to develop the area. He told them that if they reconciled they would get more development projects.

Dagbon has been split down the middle after the assassination of the Ya Na Yakubu Andani, Paramount Chief of Dagbon and 30 others in March 2002.

Hundreds of people had welcomed Vice President Aliu at the entrance of Yendi and accompanied him in buses, vehicles, motorcycles and bicycles into the town.

He appealed to the people to lend their support to the Government to restore peace to the area.

Vice President Aliu said the Government meant well and that was why despite the conflict situation development projects were still going on. While at Yendi, the Vice President paid a courtesy call on the Kuga Na, Abdulai Braimah and the Zohi Na, Mahamadu Salifu, who are counsellors of the Ya Na.

He also called on the Bolila Na, Mahamadu Abdulai; Regent of the Abudu Gate.

The Member of Parliament MP for Yendi, Alhaji Malik Alhassan; the District Chief Executive, Mohammed Habibu Tijani and several NPP Functionaries accompanied the Vice President.
