FOR ALMOST 20 years, workers at the Volta River Authority (VRA) have been working from 8.30 am to 3.00 pm.

The temporary 'experiment' began in 1983 when there was a problem with fuel supply and transportation had become a major national problem..

Workers were expected to forego their lunch breaks so that they can put in the hours like all other in the civil and public sector services.

That experiment has stayed until, the 'macho' man Dr. Charles Wereko Brobbey came to town and took a peek at the system, notice that staff were still taking their lunch break and took a scissors to the 'experiment'.

From the beginning on this year January 2000, VRA workers are now working from 8. 00 to 5.00 am like every body else.

The workers kicked against the change but eventually fell in line.
