All Govt Ministers must declare their current assets

Mediawatch Research Associates is appealing to the President of Ghana John Evans Atta Mills as a matter of supreme urgency to get all his ministers and deputy ministers in office from January 2009 till date to declare their assets for Ghanaians to be assured of transparency and accountability. We make these concerns due to certain evidence and information regarding properties and assets which have been acquired by certain individuals in government since they came into office.

We like to believe President Mills is willing to set an example but we have major concerns about majority of his ministers and key government officials. At great risk and taking advantage of the country’s whistleblowers act, we name three key individuals whose acquisitions is a sight for sore eyes.

1.Dr Tony Aidoo

Dr Tony Aidoo in March 2010 bought a company in South Africa called Xhosa Holdings which actually makes bullets and ammunition for export to china.
He has also bought 2 houses, a three bedroom villa in Fordsburg, Johannesburg and a 2 bedroom flat on the outskirts of the port city of Port Elizabeth. For an acclaimed socialist, Dr Aidoo seems to be doing well in exploiting the virtues of capitalism. He must also explain to the president and to Ghanaians his links with Afren oil and Regus Oil and why he is being paid 80,000 dollars a month to do consultation work for them while working as head of policy and evaluation at the seat of government.

Antwi Bosiako Sekyere

The deputy minister for employment seems to be eating a lot of apples. He must explain to Ghanaians and to the President his financial interest in Human Resources company Muldex Resources which acts as a recruiter for the National health Insurance Authority, the National Sports council, The national commission for Artsand culture, the youth in Agriculture module programme under the NYEP and Kemplisky hotel. Why is he as a minister also receiving 50,000 dollars a month as a consultant to Syntroleum Cameroon limited ,an oil company based in Cameroon?

Mrs Betty Mould Idrissu

The current Alfred Agbesi Woyome scandal does not compare to other matters of Mrs Betty Mould idrissu, Minister for education and one of the reasons President Mills may lose the 2012 elections if swift action is not taken against her. We have major concerns about Mrs Idrissu’s loyalty to the Republic of Ghana as person and question her links with British intelligence agencies( a matter we are painfully investigating and hopefully will come out with our report in March). Mrs Idrissu must explain to the President and to Ghanaians why she has bought three four bedroom houses in dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. She must also explain her links and her personal relationship with the CURRENT Emir of Bharain, Hamad al - Khalifah and why last year in August 2011 an electronic transfer amount of 150,000 dollars was received by her after she wrote to the Bharaini Trade Ministry authorities to act as their country representative to source business and major government contracts on their behalf.

It’s a pity the Bureau of National Investigations, the nations premier investigative body ,the police and other law enforcement agencies including the office of the president are failing to support the president to bring transparency into government and weed out these individuals. Our government and our institutions need a major overhaul if confidence is to be restored into the practice of open government and honesty which unfortunately is lacking in current government ministers.

Next month we reveal 4 government ministers and heads of institutions who are spying and given classified information to western intelligence agencies in exchange for money and other favours.
