Dr. Justice Poku Adusei was sworn in as a Court of Appeal judge on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. The 46-year judge currently serves as the Director, of Legal, of the National Communications Authority and is the youngest person ever to have been called to the bar according to thelawplatformonline.

In a profile published by the University of Ghana, he served as the Deputy Director General of the Ghana Standards Authority between September 2017 and March 2019. Before this, he was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana, School of Law, where he taught Intellectual Property Law, Private International Law, Company Law, and Land Law.

He was called to the Ghana Bar in 2003 after earning a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) Degree and a Qualified Certificate in Law.

He furthered his studies at the University of Alberta, Canada, where he received the H.N. McDermid Scholarship and obtained his Master of Laws (LL.M.) Degree specializing in copyright law and innovation.

Dr. Adusei holds a PhD in patent law, innovation, and development from McGill University in Canada and an Executive Master of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Ghana Business School.

In 2006, Dr. Adusei joined the University of Ghana as a Lecturer in the Faculty of Law. His dedication to academia saw him rise to the position of Senior Lecturer in 2013.

He also served as acting Dean of Law on several occasions and chaired the University of Ghana Disciplinary Committee for Junior and Senior Staff.

Dr. Adusei has played crucial roles in the development of Intellectual Property Policy at the University of Ghana and served on several boards and committees, including the Advisory Board of the Institute of Applied Science and Technology.

He has written on intellectual property law, technology transfer, and innovation.

His work has been published in numerous reputable local and international peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of African Law, the African Journal of International and Comparative Law, the Global Journal of Comparative Law, and the Journal of World Intellectual Property.

He is also the author of two notable academic books: "Patenting of Pharmaceuticals and Development in Sub-Saharan Africa: Laws, Institutions, Practices, and Politics" and "Protecting Moral Rights under Copyright Law: The Stride Forward."

Dr. Adusei has consulted for several governmental agencies and international organizations, including the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO).

As the Managing Partner of Poku Adusei & Associates, a law firm specializing in corporate law, consultancy services, and commercial litigation, Dr. Adusei has represented many corporate clients.

His expertise spans intellectual property law, land litigation, technology, and innovation law consultancies, and alternative dispute resolution procedures.

Dr. Adusei has been involved in human rights and public interest litigation cases, particularly against mining companies and other agencies in Ghana.
