Sissala East MP Amidu Issahaku Chinnia has defended Attorney-General Godfred Dame against allegations of unethical and unprofessional conduct in a high-profile financial crimes trial.

According to him, the allegation pertains to professional conduct and, if proven, does not affect the substantive case before the court.

Speaking on TV3 Big Issues, he said, "This issue concerns the professional conduct of Dame. If it is established that he tried to influence the accused, it does not impact the merits of the substantive case in court."

He emphasized that the primary concern is the contract signed by the government and the application of its terms.

"The substantive matter revolves around the contract that the government signed and how the terms of the contract were applied. The Attorney-General has a strong case and does not need the support of the third accused," he added.

The allegations were brought forth by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who claimed that Attorney-General Godfred Dame engaged in unethical conduct during the financial crimes trial involving Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson.

Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ambulance purchase case, alleged in court that Dame had contacted him to implicate the Minority Leader.

Reports indicated that although the Attorney-General was present in court, he did not immediately respond to these allegations.

In response, Dame has published plea negotiation letters with Jakpa and claimed to possess video evidence showing the Minority Leader seeking a deal to discontinue the financial crimes case.
