An old woman and her three children were on Friday night attacked by angry youth of Dungu in Tamale accusing her of being a witch and killing seven of neighbours.

The woman, who was repeatedly accused of spiritually hunting residents escaped the wrath of the angry mob after some elders intervened and pleaded on her behalf.

The youth invaded the mud house of the woman with stones, sticks and guns and launched a chaotic attempt to lynch her by first vandalizing a utility pole and trees in the woman’s compound.

According to Starr FM’s Northern regional correspondent Eliasu Tanko, the alleged witch was dragged out from her room amidst severe physical assault before she was rescued by some community elders.

The woman is currently under the protection of the elders in the community.
Violent attacks on old women suspected to be witches is common in the northern part of the country.
