Central Regional Propaganda Secretary of the ruling party, Allotey Jacobs, has expressed disgust over the expenses made by government on the Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Ms. Lauretta Lamptey.
Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FMs Morning Show, Allotey Jacobs registered his displeasure with the revelations by the Daily Graphic regarding the accommodation of the CHRAJ Boss.
Tuesday’s edition of Daily Graphic indicated that Ms. Lauretta Lamptey has since August 2014, been lodging at a hotel after the “US $5,500 monthly rent for her apartment at the African Union (AU) Village expired. The daily rate for the hotel is $456.25, being paid in cedis.”
Investigations by the newspaper showed that “Ms. Lamptey was awaiting the completion of her official residence, which is still under renovation, three years after assuming the position.
“That means from July 2011 when she was appointed to July 2014 when her rent at the AU Village expired, a period of 37 months, $203,500 was spent on her rent accommodation, including utilities.”
Addressing the issue on Kokrokoo, Allotey Jacobs queried whether Ms. Lamptey would have allowed such sums of money to be spent on her if CHRAJ were her own “private company.”
Decrying the behaviour of Ms. Lamptey, the NDC bigwig rhetorically asked; “Is the Ghanaian capable of handling his own affairs?”
To him, ““it’s disturbing looking at the money involved” and blamed CHRAJ for expended such amounts of money on its Commissioner.
“These are administrative lapses by the CHRAJ itself. So, allow us to ask; were the authorities in charge of renovating the house sleeping or otherwise? Or is it the fault of Ms Lauretta to be lodging in a hotel and be paying these charges or it’s rather the fault of the CHRAJ authorities?” he questioned.
