Allow people to join scheme of their choice

Accra, Jan. 12, GNA - Government has been urged to commit itself to the policy of supporting private initiatives that seek to complement efforts in making health care delivery effective, efficient, affordable and accessible.

A press statement issued by the Anointed Fellowship Ambassador (AFA) Foundation International in Accra on Monday, also spoke against any attempt to restrict Ghanaians to a particular insurance scheme. It said the citizenry must be encouraged to join any scheme that reflected their choice and background.

The statement signed by Mr Kofi Lucas, Founder of AFA, said it was important to include poverty reduction strategy programmes and other initiatives into any health insurance scheme to make it sustainable. It called on the Ministry of Health, the Regional Coordinating Councils, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to offer financial and material support to private social Health Insurance Schemes.

AFA Foundation International through its health department would launch an AFA Health Insurance Scheme in the Greater Accra Region in June and subsequently in other regions, the statement said.
