One of Africa’s best writers Ama Ata Aidoo is a completely Ghanaian made creation, her daughter Kinna Likimani has said.

Her creation starts from the stretches of roads in the Central region which includes villages and towns like Ekumfi Asaafa, Eyan Denkyira, Nkusunku Nkwanta among many others through to Accra.

“Her feminism, pan-Africanism, socialism, sensibilities, storytelling, experimentation with form and her writing skills, everything is Ghanaian made”, she added.

She said this at the launch of the Ama Ata Aidoo Centre for Creative Writing at the African University College of Communication on Thursday March 16, 2017.

She is one of Ghana’s notable writers - whose poetry, plays and books are widely read in Ghana and across the world. She has been writing for sixty years.

She is the recipient of many awards including: The Gurrey Prize for Poetry; the Nelson Mandela Award for Poetry; and the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize. She is the founder of Mbaasem Foundation, an organisation to promote the work of Ghanaian and African writers.
