The National Women Organiser of the NDC, Ama Benyiwa Doe, over the weekend experienced shock when her vehicle knocked down a pedestrian around Mendskrom in Accra on Saturday. When the Ghanaian Lens newspaper reached her shortly after the accident, Auntie Ama Chavez (as she is affectionately called) who sounded really distraught said she has been deeply affected by the loss of the life of the pedestrian who was knocked down by her vehicle.
“I wish there is a way that he can be brought back to life”, she kept repeating. “But for God’s kindness and the skills of my driver, I could also have lost my life,” she stated. According to Auntie Ama, on that fateful Saturday she was returning from a funeral in the Central Region on board her vehicle, which was then being driven by her driver. She stated that at about 8:45p.m, when they got to Mendskrom, a pedestrian suddenly emerged onto the road, apparently trying to cross the road, and just run in front of the vehicle.
“As much as my driver tried to avoid the man, regrettably, there was very little he could do given the circumstances,” an obviously pained Ama Benyiwa Doe recounted. Auntie Ama was full of praise for the young men and women in that area for the helpful manner that they rushed to the accident scene and tried to help save the victim. The matter has since been reported to the Odorkor Police MTTU who have started investigations into the accident.
