#FreetheCitizens
39 protesters arrested by the Ghana Police Service on September 22, 2024, for lawless acts have been remanded into police custody for two weeks by the court.
The protesters sought to protest against illegal mining polluting water bodies, as well demand good governance from the government.
However, the peaceful demonstration took a different turn when chaos and violence occurred between the police and protesters, leading to their arrest.
Dampare
The Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, is in the trends.
Netizens are criticising him for overseeing what they describe as injustice and unfairness against arrested protesters.
Reports indicate that some protesters were beaten and maltreated by the police, as well as denied food and water for 48 hours.
Additionally, they were denied legal representation which goes against the laws of the land.
Ama Governor
The legal practitioner is among the arrested protesters.
Despite her lack of involvement in the chaotic protest, she was arrested along with others who were bystanders during the demonstration.
Nsawam
Due to a lack of space in the police cells, some of the arrested protesters have been allocated to spend two weeks in remand at the prison until their next court hearings on October 8 and October 11, 2024, respectively.
Peace Council
Netizens are criticising the Peace Council for their continued silence regarding the troubling events in the country.

The police doesn’t realize it yet but they’ve created a figurehead out of Ama Governor. This is enough to inspire.
