Popular social media influencer Elorm Ababio, known as Ama Governor, has officially been called to the Bar in Accra.

This follows a lengthy dispute between Ama Governor and the General Legal Council over a letter received in 2022 regarding her conduct as a law student.

In a video shared on Starr FM’s social media platforms on May 31, 2024, an ecstatic Ama Governor was seen climbing the podium, bowing before the dignitaries, receiving a certificate, and then returning to her seat.

Story so far

In 2022, despite meeting all requirements, Ama Governor was denied the call to the Bar after the council received a complaint describing her conduct as "unbecoming of an applicant to be called to the Bar."

This decision sparked public outcry both on and off social media, with many questioning the rationale behind it, while others praised the General Legal Council for its actions.

Ama Governor denied engaging in any offensive behavior or inappropriate communications. She stated that she had not been informed of any specific instances of misconduct and felt she was treated unfairly.

In September 2023, a report at the 2022/2023 bar conference by the General Legal Council indicated that the complaint had been reviewed by a committee, and she was allowed to begin the application process for the October/November 2023 sessions.

However, in October 2023, she was denied the call to the Bar for the second time by the General Legal Council.

The decision, outlined in a letter from Judicial Secretary Justice Cyra Pamela C. A. Koranteng, was based on concerns about her conduct.

While she can reapply after the October 20, 2023 ceremony, the Council will monitor her behavior closely.

In 2024, a list shared by the GLC included her among 182 candidates from the Ghana School of Law for the call to the Bar ceremony on May 31, 2024.
