The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of manipulating a recording involving a high-profile conversation between Supreme Court judge Justice Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi, Attorney General Godfred Dame, and Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ongoing ambulance procurement case.
The accusations surfaced after Richard Jakpa, in court on Thursday, May 23, alleged that Attorney General Godfred Dame had approached him multiple times, seeking his assistance to implicate Dr. Ato Forson, the first accused and former Deputy Finance Minister.
Dr. Forson is currently facing charges for his alleged involvement in the procurement of faulty ambulances for Ghana.
Contradicting these claims, Attorney General Dame asserted that it was Jakpa who had made multiple attempts to reach out to him, sending several letters in a bid to negotiate a plea bargain aimed at dropping the charges against all accused persons.
The Attorney General clarified that no agreement had been reached regarding these proposals.
On Monday, May 27, 2024, Henry Nana Boakye, also known as Nana B, the National Organiser of the NPP, in a Facebook post provided some information to the ongoing case.
Nana B revealed that the meeting in question took place at the residence of Justice Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi and was attended by Attorney General Dame at Kulendi's request.
Nana B emphasized that the full recording of the conversation would exonerate the Attorney General, demonstrating that Dame never asked Jakpa to alter his testimony.
He suggested that the unaltered recording would provide clear evidence against the manipulation claims made by the NDC.
"The latest in this charade is the claim of possessing some damning evidence which has been found out to be a recording by Richard Jakpa at a meeting the AG was invited to by a Supreme Court judge, Justice Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi without being informed Richard Jakpa would be present," Nana B stated.
"We are reliably informed that the NDC is trying every means to maliciously ‘doctor’ the said tape to exclude portions of the conversation and particularly the voice of the Supreme Court Justice, whose invitation the AG honoured out of courtesy," he added.
