Some expatriates from the United States have described as distasteful President Donald Trump’s utterances labelling African nations, such as Haiti and El Salvador, as “shithole” countries whose inhabitants are not desirable as migrants to the United States.

Trump is reported to have asked, “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” after being presented with a proposal to restore protections for immigrants from those countries as part of a bipartisan immigration deal.

But the US President in a tweet on Friday, defended himself in the wake of the recent comment stating that, "The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used. What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made – a big setback for DACA!"

However, some US residents in Ghana have rebuked the leader of the free-world for his “racist” slur, describing him as a “crazy leader whose words should not be taken serious”.

One expat who spoke to GhanaWeb TV said although they are Whites, they absolutely do not rally behind their government for his highly irresponsible statement.

Meanwhile, the alleged remarks which did not sit well with a number of world leaders has generated backlash with some African leaders and the African Union (AU) describing it as “extremely derogatory and unfortunate”.

President Nana Akufo-Addo is one heads of state to publicly respond to Trump, saying Ghana will “not accept such insults even from a leader of a friendly country.”
