A former Ashanti Regional Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Saani, has said the nominee for the position of Special Persecutor, Martin Amidu, would on his own resign from office within six months of his approval due to the nominee’s temperament

Saani expressed dissatisfaction at how Amidu responded to questions posed to him during vetting by the Appointment Committee of Parliament.

Many have expressed similar sentiments over Martin Amidu’s composure and demeanor during his vetting.

Expressing his view on Accra based Okay FM yesterday, Alhaji Saani said the Special Prosecutor nominee’s temperament would cause him to resign after six months in office if he is given approval.

Martin Amidu on Tuesday, displayed a ‘no-nonsense’ stance when he was being vetted by the Appointment Committee.

He openly displayed signs of anger when the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu asked him if he would like to settle a matter in the ‘Builsa way’, a common joke to mean the Builsa people did not like steeling scores through dialogue.

“If you look at his posture he seems to be a dictator. He feels he knows the law better than anyone else. When the Board is set I tell you there will be controversies in this country,” Saani said.

He also expressed dissatisfaction at Martin Amidu’s comment as being far better than any lawyer in Ghana, when he was asked why he thinks he is the best man for the job during the vetting.

He believes there are competent people who also could have earned the President’s call.

“Martin Amidu lost several cases when he was the Attorney General so what makes him special for the job” There are other good lawyers in this country who could have earned Akufo-Addo’s call so he shouldn’t say he is far better than any lawyer in the country,” Saani stated.

The former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice under the previous Mills’ administration, was on January 11 appointed as the Special Prosecutor by President Akufo-Addo.

His nomination has since generated mixed reactions from both the Majority and the Minority in Parliament.

Currently he is awaiting approval from the Appointment Committee in Parliament.
