Amoaman chief shot dead by unknown assailants

Ejisu, (Ash), Feb. 15, GNA - Nana Amoah Gyame II, chief of Amuoman, has been shot dead by unknown gunmen in his home at Asamang, near Ejisu.

The 48 year-old chief had just returned from a family meeting at Amuoman, in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District, at about 1930 hours with his son and driver when the two mask-wearing assailants opened fire with a pump action gun, hitting him twice in the chest.

The assailants were believed to have laid ambush in the house of the chief and as soon as he came out of his car they shot at him and he died instantly.

They fled with his hand bag containing an unspecified amount of mone= y and two cell phones.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Stephen Awuah who confirme= d the incident to Ghana News Agency, said that a 13-year girl, Perpetual Serwaah, who was passing by and was injured by the assassins' bullet and had to be rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) was responding to treatment. Nana Appiah, the deceased's son and Sumaila Darko, the driver, howev= er, managed to escape unhurt. The motive for the killing unknown and the Police have mounted a search for the fugitives and the body of the chief had been deposited at KATH mortuary. The Chief known in private life as Joe Appiah was a former player o= f Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club.
