The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Asuogyaman Constituency in the Eastern Region, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, has renovated a three-unit classroom block for the Labolabo D/A Basic School, which has been in deplorable condition.

Pupils of the school have had to study in the deplorable condition for the past years, hampering effective teaching and learning activities.

It is against this backdrop that the MP renovated the 40-year-old building to enhance teaching and learning.

The situation of the classroom block resulted in several inconveniences for the pupils, including poor ventilation resulting in heat as well as poor illumination.

To address the problem, electricity has now been supplied to the school, with new windows and ceiling fans fixed to improve ventilation.

The lack of computers was also identified as an issue of concern during the event.

The situation reportedly affected the effective teaching and learning of practical information and communication technology (ICT).

The lawmaker, addressing the gathering, explained the necessity of fixing the situation.

According to him, the regrettable situation resulted in a substandard learning and teaching atmosphere for the students. 

He said, “There was no light in the classroom, so it got gloomy, which hindered teaching and learning because pupils had to strain their eyes to see what was written on the board,” he said.
  
Mr. Nyarko furthered that the deficient conditions of the classroom prompted him to renovate the block.  

His intervention, he was confident, would create a more suitable learning environment for both teachers and students.

The legislator said, “I have installed lighting in the classroom so that children may study even in the evenings.”

He identified other unpleasant situations in the infrastructure, such as deteriorating classroom blocks, and promised to refurbish the remaining classrooms to modern standards and increase the quality of teaching and learning.

He pledged his additional support to fix them.

Expressing his gratitude to the District Director of the Asuogyaman Ghana Education Service as well as the headteacher, staff, and students of the Labolabo D/A School for their cooperation, he remarked that the conducive facility now presented a better teaching and learning environment.

On her part, the District Director of the GES at Asuogyaman, Augustina Adjoa Owusu, expressed her delight at the fulfilment of the promise of the lawmaker, adding that his actions exceeded her initial expectations. 

The director charged the students to take full advantage of the opportunity by stepping up their individual learning to ensure that they succeed.

She also called on the teachers to put in extra effort in shaping the future of the children.

The Paramount Chief of the Anum Traditional Area, Okusiaku Kumi Brempong Sasraku VIII, was also thankful to the MP for his intervention.
 
The traditional leader, in urging the management of the school to adopt a culture of maintenance, assured them that traditional leadership would do all in their power to preserve the classroom building and its amenities for future generations.
