Nurses protesting against the Nation Builders’ Corps (NABCO) have warned the government to exclude them from the policy and find lasting jobs for them as “an angry nurse is capable to killing a patient”.

Registering their displeasure during a protest on Monday, an upset nurse told Ghanaweb TV that a nurse who is unable to have a sound mind can make an error in the lab which can lead to the death of a patient.

According to the nurse, the Akufo-Addo government has failed on countless occasions to fulfill their campaign promises and although NABCO is a good policy, it does not satisfy the job requirement of the trained nurses and does not also bring a lasting solution to their unemployment issues.

“We are not going to accept it (NABCO) in our lives because they’ve promised us several times and they’ve failed. We are much aware that this is the same promise they would give us and fail again, so we are not going to adhere to what they are saying,” a male nurse angrily said.

He further cautioned the government to take a second look at the policy, because if they fail to listen to their plight and proceed to force the NABCO on them, there is going to be mess in hospitals.

“They should look at it and look at it very well, because we are dealing with lives and an angry nurse is a potential killer. The government should know and take note that if we are hungry and very angry then we can cause mess in the facility. All we are saying is that we are not into NABCO,” he stressed.

Some of the nurses have also threatened to vote out the New Patriotic Party government in 2020 if it fails to review some terms and conditions governing the policy.

“He [President Nana Akufo-Addo] shouldn’t worry. 2020 is coming. We voted him in and we will vote him out,” some nurses shouted in unison as they marched in protest against the Heal Ghana module under NABCO.
