A former Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah says inasmuch as he doubts the capability of persons behind the recent alleged coup plot, the move to oust the Akufo-Addo-led government is a testament of a mismanaged economy.
Downplaying the coup attempt, the former national security adviser observed that Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah rushed in concluding that the initial three men arrested were plotting to overthrow the government.
Speaking to Nuong Faalong on TV3’s Hot Issues Saturday, he said no one has time off their hands to plot a coup unless they are idle.
“They rushed too much, he himself does not know what a coup is…moreover, if the Minister for Information is telling you and me about an attempted coup, what he is telling us is that they are not running the country properly…if the economy is running properly, why will anyone try to overthrow the government?”
A joint security operation according to the government, led to the retrieval of some locally manufactured guns, explosive devices and ammunition from different locations belonging to the three men.
According to the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the joint operation was to neutralize an elaborate plot targeted at the presidency and with the ultimate aim of destabilising the country.
