Andani family to resist installation of regent

Tamale, March 28, GNA - The Andani Royal family has declared that it would resist any attempt by the Abudu Royal family to install a regent after the burial of Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II, overlord of Dagbon. The Andani Gate contended that it would only accept and follow the programme drawn up by the Kuga-Na (Acting Ya-Na) in consultation with its members for the burial and performance of the funeral rites of the Ya-Na Yakubu Andani after which his regent would be installed. The Andani Royal Family made the declaration at a press conference in Tamale on Tuesday in response to an earlier one organised by the Abudu Royal Family at Yendi on Saturday March 18.

At the earlier press conference, the Abudu Royal Family raised issues concerning the Kuga-Na's "alleged acting presidency and custodianship, the burial of the late Ya-Na and the alleged violation of Dagbon custom and tradition".

Mr Andani Mahama, an Elder and Leader of the Andanis, read the statement signed by the Woribug-Lana Abdulai, Chief of Woribug, on behalf of the family.

The statement said: "We are, however, making it emphatically clear that the programme for the burial and installation of a regent of the late Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II will not be abandoned in any circumstance. The programme will be executed the way it has been published."
