Koforidua, Oct. 28, GNA - The Anglican Institute of Technology, a tertiary institute being established by the Anglican Church is expected to take off by October 2007.
The institute is expected to have three campuses at Manso Nkran in Ashanti Region, Ayanfuri, Central Region, and Koforidua in the Eastern Region.
The Bishop of Koforidua Diocese of the Anglican Church, Rt. Rev. Francis Benjamin Quashie announced this at the formal opening of the third session of the eighth synod of the diocese at Koforidua on Thursday.
The synod, which is being organized under the theme: "Ebenezer, hitherto hath the Lord helped us," also coincides with the silver jubilee celebration of the establishment of the diocese in 1981. Bishop Quashie appealed to members of the Church to come together to donate towards the implementation of the project.
He called on the Government, the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) to act in a way to erase all suspicions among them and build the necessary confidence that could help end the on-going strike of teachers.
Bishop Quashie commended the government for pursuing policies aimed at addressing poverty and unemployment in the country, but regretted that despite all the good intentions of government, poverty and unemployment continued to be a major problem.
He called on parishes of the Church to visit their various district assemblies to learn about the Millennium Challenge Account and the Youth in Employment programme in order to encourage the communities to access the facilities.
The Deputy Eastern Region Minister, Ms Susana Mensah, appealed to teachers currently on strike to return to the classroom. She urged all Christians to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme to enable them to access quality and affordable health care in the country.
Ms Mensah explained that many District Health Insurance Schemes are co-operating among themselves and that makes it possible for registered members with the scheme to access health care in other districts with the same registration card.
