Anglo-Gold Bibiani JHS tops in quiz competition

Anglo-Gold Bibiani Limited Junior High School (JHS) has beaten 11 other basic schools at Sefwi in the Western Region, to win the second phase of the Sefwi Inter-Schools Quiz Competition.

The other schools are Humjibre Anglican JHS, Ampenkrom D/A JHS, Sefwi Bekwai SDA JHS, Awaso D/A JHS, Nkatieso D/A JHS, Tanoso D/A JHS, Bibiani SDA JHS, Subiri D/A JHS, Bibiani D/A ‘B’ JHS, and Ntakam D/A JHS.

The competition was held at Bibiani, the capital of the Bibiani Ahwiaso – Bekwai District.

The 12-school competition, which started from the group stages in December, 2014, saw the Anglo-Gold Bibiani JHS and Sefwi Bekwai SDA JHS coming face-to–face in the grand finale.

The Anglo-Gold Bibiani JHS won the ultimate, with 116 points, while Sefwi Bekwas SDA JHS followed up with 80 points.

The first three schools, Anglo-Gold Bibiani JHS; Bekwai SDA and Bibiani D/A received sets of computers, printers and Text books with the rest taking home consolation prizes.

Miss Rosemond Selasi Bissah, a Form ‘3’ student of the Anglo-Gold Bibiani JHS emerged the overall Best Student of the competition, while the overall Best Team Leader award went to Mr David Harrison Mensah, Headmaster of the Sefwi Bekwai SDA JHS, for his inspirational guidance to his Team throughout the four- month long competition.

According to Mr Richard Aidoo, Patron of Sefwi Inter-Schools Quiz Board, the programme was initiated by the Board in 2014, to improve academic performance of students within the Sefwi Area.

He said the first phase of the competition took place at Awaso last year and was won by Kanaso D/A JHS.

Mr Aidoo, who is also the Director of REGHA Construction Limited, appealed to stakeholders in the area, to help sustain the programme by contributing in kind and cash, to promote effective intellectual education for the growth and development of the country.

He said: “It takes one person to come out with an idea, and it is well supported by the public for the benefit of the larger community.”

The programme, sponsored by KAAF University College, Approachers Series and Nana Nyarko Abronoma Katakyi, Bibiani Constituency Chairman of the Progressive People’s Party, was chaired by Mr Kingsley Asoa-Appiah, District Chief Executive for Juabeso.
