A modern sanitary facility comprising 20-seater water-closet toilet with biogas designed to improve sanitation at Sanso in the Ashanti Region, has been handed over to the community.
The GH? 190,000.00 facility was financed by AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi Mine and constructed by BAMED Construction Ltd, a local construction company.
Nana Ampofo Bekoe, Sustainability Manager of AGA who handed over the facility noted that Sanso is a critical community to the mine and the project is part of the company’s community investment drive.
He said the company’s needs assessment compromised that of the community’s call for sanitary facility to avert open defecation.
Nana Bekoe said to ensure effective maintenance of the facility, the local water and sanitation committee would be trained to keep it in good condition.
Nana Akua Gyamfuaa, Queen mother of Sanso who received the keys to the facility commended AGA for the facility.
She appealed to the company to provide the community with a clinic to help improve quality health care delivery.
