Angry Akufo-Addo should go burn the sea – Asiedu Nketiah snaps

The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah is utterly disgusted by the posture of President Akufo-Addo in addressing the brouhaha over US military co-operation agreement, indicating his anger was misplaced.

President Akufo-Addo appeared livid Thursday over what he described as “unspeakable hypocrisy” exhibited by many, mainly NDC functionaries, who have protested the military agreement.

Critics claimed the deal sought to mortgage Ghana’s sovereignty to the Americans.

However, President Akufo-Addo told the nation, “I will never be the president that will compromise or sell the sovereignty of our country. I respect deeply the memory of the great patriots whose sacrifice and toil brought about our independence and freedom.”

“Surely, this is the kind of cynical manipulation by reckless self-seekers, which, in the fullness of time, the people of Ghana will acknowledge and condemn,” the president stated.

But Mr. Asiedu Nketia told Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa on Friday hosted by Bright Kwasi Asempa that the president has no moral right to be angry with citizens criticizing his decisions.

“I was shocked because it was clear in President Akufo-Addo’s tone that he was angry. He was putting fire into the issue and if he is angry, I am going to give him matches to go and burn the sea. Why was he angry?,” the NDC General Secretary retorted in the Twi language.

The former Member of Parliament for the Wenchi West Constituency in the Brong Ahafo Region said President Akufo-Addo “could not explain the issue and we shall fight until the agreement is withdrawn”.

“There are several manifestations we shall undertake democratically because he did not get the facts right. I think he was briefed wrongly”, he added.
