The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has lashed out at the paramount chiefs in the Kingdom for failing to speak on his behalf when people made derogatory remarks about him when some royal jewelry he was traveling with in Norway was stolen recently.
An angry Asantehene, who held a press conference at the Manhyia Palace on Monday to express his views on the commentary surrounding the missing royal jewelry, said he is too blessed by God and the Golden stool to walk around showing off in the royal jewels when he has no business using them.
According to XYZ News’ Ashanti Regional Correspondent, Isaac Bediako Justice, Asantehene threatened to invoke curses on those whose responsibility it was to come to his aid and failed to do so.
But for the timely intervention of the Offinso Manhene, Nana Wiafe Akenten, and Asante Mampong Manhene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, who sang to soothe his raging temper, the Asantehene would have invoked the wrath of the gods on his offenders.
The Asantehene's royal jewels were stolen in Norway where he was attending a conference. Parts of the jewels have been retrieved so far.
He said after all he has done for the Asanteman, he has been hanged out to dry by his subjects for no apparent reason.
He said his integrity was impugned in the Ghanaian media when he was far away in Norway and yet no paramount chief from the Kingdom spoke on his behalf to put the issue into perspective.
According to the Otumfuo, if no one will come to his defense in times like this, he will be compelled to find his own way to handle such embarrassments.
Explaining how the jewels are used, the Asantehene said he has no control over the jewelry and that it is the chiefs who take custody over them and advise him on what to wear for which function.
He however revealed that the Norwegian police authorities have assured him that by the close of this week, the culprits will be arrested.
