Angry Chief chides Akufo-Addo over failed 1 District 1 Factory promise

The Chief of Abura Dunkwa Traditional Area, Nana Asokwa Kwegyire II has expressed disappointment in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo’s inability to fulfil his promise made to the chiefs and people of Abura Asebu Kwamankese(AAK) district to provide them with “1 District 1 Factory”

According to him, he offered Nana Addo a 15-acre of land free of charge for the construction of a Factory during his (Nana Addo) “thank you tour” in the district blessed with palm and citrus but nothing has been done about it.

Nana Kwegyire again stated that the government is making noise about the implementation of One District One Factory across the country but his district has been neglected.

The Chief made this known during a stakeholders’ forum at the Abura Dunkwa district assembly, dubbed “the Akufo Addo governance impact” appealing to the government through the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Felicia Aba Hagan to provide the district with factory as soon as possible.

Nana Kwegyire revealed that majority of farmers had cut their citrus farms to burn charcoal for business and tasked the government to as matter of urgency provide the people of AAK District with soap or palm oil industry to boost economic activities and employment creation.

Nana Kwegyire who also requested for the construction of deplorable roads in the district, threatened that if their requests are not met, the President should forget about their votes come the 2020 elections.

The Central Regional Minister, Mr Kwamina Duncan who was there to witness the programme appealed to the Chief to have patience with the government since all the nation’s problems are on his neck.

He reminded him that 80% of contractors owed by the previous government would be settled by the end of this month to enable them get back to work.

Mr. Duncan assured the chief and people of AAK that 260 communities within the district is a huge task and his boss does not have available funds to solve the issues together and would do it gradually.

In her presentation, the DCE of the area, Madam Egan said even her outfit is not aware of the Chief’s offer to the government in line with the 1D1F policy.
