Angry mob vandalized Gift FM at Dormaa-Ahenkro

Some irate young men at Dormaa-Ahenkro on Monday besieged the premises of Gift FM, a local FM radio station in the town, and caused extensive damage to property.

But the timely intervention of the police, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Yussif Mahmud, Dormaa Municipal Police Commander, saved the situation.

Information reaching the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said the action of the youth, numbering about 30, followed a news item the radio station carried and posted on its portal.

The story was about a purported banishment of Mr. Fred Effah Yeboah, the General Manager of the Presbyterian Hospital at Dormaa-Ahenkro, by the Dormaa Traditional Council.

They attacked the night security attendant and the Director of the radio station, Mr Francis Kwabena Boahen, smashed louver blades and attempted to set the station ablaze.

An official report had been made to the police but no arrest has been made, a police officer confirmed to the GNA on condition of anonymity.

The officer could not give reasons as to what led to the supposed banishment of Mr. Fred, but added that Municipal Security Council was holding a meeting on the matter.

When the GNA visited the premises of the radio station on Tuesday, security was very tight as there was a presence of about six armed police personnel.

An eyewitness said the attackers entered the station around 1030 hours by scaling its walls but could not identify the studio.
