Anlo State requires economic development - Okudjeto

Atorkor (V/R), Jan. 3, GNA - The Founder and President of Volta Foundation, a group committed to development in the Volta Region, has called for the utilization of the abundant water bodies in the Anlo State to create wealth for the youth.

Mr. Dumega Raymond Okudjeto said: "We would be blamed by our sons and daughters if we do not lay the foundation for life for them and we must utilize the unique resources in our area". He was speaking at a New Year get-to-gather for the chiefs and elders of 36 Traditional Areas of Anlo, to consolidate and signify unity in the area, on Friday at Atorkor, near Anloga.

Mr. Okudzeto said that in the absence of adequate land for farming and other activities, the water bodies and related environment offered good potentials for salt industry, beach resort development, eco-tourism and aqua-culture based on the Israeli model.

He said the youth of the area were really agitated because of lack of economy development as the traditional fishing and farming methods were no longer viable enough to sustain their livelihood. Mr. Okudzeto blamed the rising school dropout rate in the area on the dwindling economic fortunes of the people.

Mr. Okudzeto said the Volta Foundation was ready to work with the Keta Municipal Assembly and the chiefs and elders to restore Anlo to its socio-economic glory for a renewed hope for the youth. 3 Jan. 10 Attention recipients, item 02 ends first cast.
