Anloga carpenters refutes allegation

Kumasi, March 23, GNA - The Anloga Carpenters Union in Kumasi, at the weekend refuted allegations by some residents of the Kumasi Metropolis that members of the group have resolved not to relocate to a new site at the Sokoban Wood Village. The union said such claim was an attempt to soil the image of group and urged residents of the metropolis to treat the speculation with the contempt it deserved.

Mr. Yaro Wukenya, executive member of the Union, dispelled the speculations at a meeting by the group, to plan how to relocation to the Village, to pave way for work to commence on the Anloga-Asokwa by-pass project, in Kumasi.

He also refuted rumours that some executives of the Union especially the life patron, Togbui S.K. Fugah, collected money from some of the members for the allocation of stores or space at the new site. Mr Yaro Wukenya said that so far 330 sheds reserved for carpenters had already been given out to the members. He said low voltage of electricity, inadequate water supply to the new site and payment of compensation to members were delaying the relocation adding "we are prepared to relocate when all our grievances are resolved".

He said the exercise would promote the wood industry in the metropolis and expressed hope that a substantive Metropolitan Chief Executive for Kumasi would be appointed soon to oversee its successful implementation.
