Several structures along the Kasoa-Winneba Highway at Dabenyin in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region have been severely damaged by another blast by Nag Fairmount Constructions Limited, the company undertaking the Kasoa-Winneba road expansion project.
According to a report by citinewsroom.com, the recent blast, which happened around Monday, wreaked havoc on the Dabenyin community.
Debris of various sizes from the blast were flying in the air, with some landing on nearby buildings, causing various degrees of damage.
A six-bedroom apartment and a two-bedroom apartment under construction were among the affected buildings.
Residents of Dabenyin have expressed concern over the blasting and the damages associated with it to local authorities.
They want the company to be held responsible for the damages caused by the rock blasts.
One of the residents whose building was hit, Kwadwo Amoah, indicated that he was now left with a structure full of leakages, and he does not know how he would be compensated.
“We have leaks in the roofs of all six rooms, and the house on the other side with five rooms has damaged roofing sheets. I complained to Dominase Police Station. When we got there, they told me to inform NADMO due to the intensity of the matter.
“I called the person who was supposed to come and inspect, but he never came. I took a GHS25,000 loan to roof the building. I don’t want them to come, remove some, and replace them. They should bring someone to change the entire roofing so we all have peace.”
The report indicated that, unlike the blast along the Buduburam stretch of the highway, which led to the loss of lives and injuries, there were no casualties in the Dabenyin blast.
At least four persons were feared dead and several injured after a rock blast on the Buduburam stretch of the Accra-Winneba Highway on Monday, October 14, 2024.
This tragic incident was shared on X by a user named Dr. King Winter.
“A very bloody and nasty incident just happened at Kasoa, Big Apple. They’ve been constructing a highway, and they just blasted the dynamite on some stones. The stones killed and tore at least five people on the main road. Blood and body parts everywhere.”
Reports indicate that the blast, which lasted for a few minutes, occurred after traffic was halted to allow the activity.
Some angry residents of the area reportedly attacked some of the staff of the company responsible for the blasting.
