The re-nominated candidate for Dangme East District Executive, Mr Kabutey Caesar, died in a motor accident last Sunday evening, August 28, when he was traveling with his wife and son from Accra to Ada.
The accident occurred when the Opel Kadett Salon Car in which he was traveling with his family crashed and went under a cargo truck, coming from the opposite direction.
Caesar and the wife died on the spot, and the son, said to be their eldest child, died later in hospital. The accident which occurred at Bundase Junction on the Accra-Aflao highway brigs to over 27, the number of lives lost through road motor accidents on our roads in less than a week. Last week Saturday, the nation lost three prominent doctors of the Urology Unit, Surgical Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, at Bunso, when they were returning from an out-reach programme at the Sunyani General Hospital.
On Tuesday, 16 people were killed on the Obuasi-Kumasi road, when the vehicles on which they were traveling got involved in a harrowing accident. The death of the 17 Deeper Life members is still fresh in our minds. According to a reliable source, the late Kabutey Caesar decided to travel with his family to Ada to prepare the grounds for his re-presentation ahead of the announcement of his re-nomination. It was on that journey that they met their untimely death.
Information indicated that, the driver of the cargo truck, who was on admission at a hospital with a fractured arm, alleged that, when he reached Bundase Junction, he saw an Opel salon car coming from Accra and it was as if the car was flying and was coming straight at him. In order to avoid a head-on collision, he swerved to the other side of the road, but before he could come to his senses, the car had plunged under the cargo truck. He said he could not remember what happened afterwards.
The source revealed that the situation at Ada at the moment was that of shock and grief, and people were wondering what might have been the cause of such a bizarre incident. The bereaved family was reported to be in a discussion with the party hierarchy in the district, for the necessary arrangements for a fitting burial. Two months ago, the deceased who was nominated as the candidate for the district Chief Executive (DCE) for the Dangme East District by President Kufuor, did not receive approval from the assembly members, necessitating his re-nomination.
