Three people, including a 70-year-old woman, have been burnt to death in a fire outbreak in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.

The fire disaster, according to report, occurred in the dawn of Sunday, June 9, 2013.

It happened in a residence at a suburb called Agric Nzema.

The property belongs to the 70-year-old deceased whose name has been given as Mary.

Two others, who died in the fire, have been identified as 20-year-old lady, Araba and 40-year-old man Alex Frimpong.

The bodies have been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Three others have sustained serious injuries and are receiving treatment at the hospital.

Eight bedrooms were totally decimated in the fire.

The outbreak is suspected to have been sparked by an electrical problem.

Eyewitnesses told XYZ News’ Ashanti regional Correspondent, Isaac Bediako Justice that the fire was preceded by an explosion of a pressing iron.

The Kumasi fire comes on the heels of rising spate of fire outbreaks in markets in the national capital, Accra, with the latest being the Makola number two market which got gutted on Tuesday.

It also comes just a day after a group in the Ashanti region, Ashanti Development Union, advised the new Mayor, Mr. Kojo Bonsu to put in place fire-safe measures to safeguard the metropolis.
