Vice Chairperson of the National Democratic Congress and National Chairperson aspirant, Betty Mould-Iddrisu has described anti-northerners allegations made against her by Joseph Yammin as frivolous and lacking substance.
The former Ashanti Regional Secretary, Joseph Yammin speaking at a Kumasi-based radio station described Betty Mould-Iddrisu as someone who has strong hatred for people of northern descent.
According to Yammin, voting for Betty Mould as the chairperson would be detrimental to the fortunes of the party in the next elections especially in the three Northern regions since she hates northerners.
He further explained reasons that made her marry a northerner saying “Betty Mould-Iddrisu is anti-northerner. She only married Alhaji Iddrisu when she was struggling to get a husband”.
Reacting to the allegations, the Director of Communications at the Office of Team Betty, Samed Akalilu in a statement copied to GhanaWeb said Joseph Yammin’s aim is to destroy and tarnish the hard-earned reputation of Betty Mould built over the years and also stop her chance of winning the National Chairmanship race since he is contesting for the same position.
According to them, Betty Mould-Iddrisu has over the years supported a myriad of NDC members including uncountable numbers from the northern part, so allegations levelled against her by Yammin is a scheme to destroy her chance of becoming the National Chairperson of the party.
“An allegation of her hatred for any group can therefore, only be a betrayal of the mooter’s intelligence or a calculated scheme to destroy Betty Mould Iddrisu's enviable reputation especially among our gallant NDC delegates. Such an allegation is frivolous, without substance and must be ignored with dispatch”, the statement read.
The team further condemned the allegations made against Betty Mould saying the vulgarity and primitive politicking must stop and also, claims that she married her husband because she was ageing is false and should be disregarded as such.
“For the avoidance of doubt that Betty Mould Iddrisu, who has been happily married for over three decades, to Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, an illustrious son of northern Ghana; has not on a single occasion, imagined/demonstrated hatred for any person or group of persons for any reason whatsoever”.

Media Release
RE : BETTY MOULD IDDRISU HATES NORTHNERS-JOSEPH YAMMIN.
Our attention has been drawn to rather, a vile, cancerous and ethnocentric remarks attributed to Mr.Joseph Yammin, a former Regional Secretary of the NDC; and which was published by a Kumasi-based Fox FM and other news portals.
In the said reportage, Mr.Yammin is quoted as saying "Betty Mould Iddrisu is anti-Northners. She only married Alhaji Iddrisu when she was struggling to get a husband."
Our team condemns such vulgarity and primitive politicking aimed at causing venomous opprobrium to the person of Hon. Betty Mould Iddrisu.
We state once again, and for the avoidance of doubt that Betty Mould Iddrisu, who has been happily married for over three decades, to Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, an illustrious son of northern Ghana; has not on a single occasion, imagined/demonstrated hatred for any person or group of persons for any reason whatsoever.
Betty Mould Iddrisu, has on a countless occasions, supported a myriad of NDC members including uncountable numbers from northern Ghana. Testimonies abound when one engages delegates who have had to chronicle these life-improving interventions in their lives through her efforts.
On the contrary to the allegations raised by Mr.Yammin, the only candidate for the NDC chairmanship race who truly and broadly represents unity is Betty Mould Iddrisu. She has a diverse ethnic background. Her father hails from Accra, mother from Kwabre in Ashanti as well as husband/children from Wa in the Upper West Region. Her political activism and support has largely been in the Upper West, Upper East, Northern, Ashanti and Greater Accra Regions.
None of her counterparts has such a broad ethnic leanings in the country. An allegation of her hatred for any group can therefore, only be a betrayal of the mooter's intelligence or a calculated scheme to destroy Betty Mould Iddrisu's enviable reputation especially among our gallant NDC delegates.
The Fox FM publication also alleged that Madam Betty Mould Iddrisu supported the Ashanti Regional Chairman against Joseph Yammin in the recent party polls held on September 1. Such an allegation is frivolous, without substance and must be ignored with dispatch.
We wish to assure our teeming support base across the party that Team Betty would continue to conduct our campaign in civility and without name-calling as witnessed during our recent successful nationwide tour and urge other aspirants/supporters to do same.
After visiting the 273 constituencies, we have no doubt that the NDC delegates are set to make history on Saturday; by electing the first female chairman of a major political party in Ghana.
We are humbled by the continued calls and voluntarism by many delegates who support the Betty campaign in many ways. We are focused, we are ready to lead for victory 2020 and we know that we are on the right side of God.
Signed
Samed Akalilu
(Director of Communication)
