Aowin-Suaman, Amenfi West endorse President's nominees for DCE

Asankrangwa (W/R), June 16, GNA - All the 40 members of the Wassa-Amenfi West District Assembly at a meeting at Asankrangwa on Wednesday voted to endorse Mr Samuel Alberto Takyi's nomination as the District Chief Executive (DCE).

Madam Sophia Horner-Sam, Deputy Western Regional Minister, told the Assembly members before the voting that development must always be the deciding factor in exercising their constitutional function to endorse or reject the President's nominee. "Our democracy is gradually taking roots and it is your duty to protect it by taking decisions devoid of partisanship", she added. Madam Horner-Sam said what was important was the quality of leadership of the nominee that would enhance growth to improve the lives of the people. She said records indicated that for the past four years, the President's nominee with the support of Assembly members had brought improvement in education, health, roads and water and sanitation in many communities in the area.

It was on this basis that she appealed to the members to endorse Mr Takyi's nomination to enable him to continue with the good works to enhance the lot of the people.

Mr Takyi thanked the members for giving him their mandate and said it was another opportunity for him to serve his people. He said the infrastructure and human resource development programme began by the Assembly would be stepped up to enhance the steady development of the District. Mr Takyi said his administration would continue to collaborate with chiefs and opinion leaders to push his developmental agenda forward and appealed for maximum cooperation from the people.

Mr John Mensah, District Magistrate, inducted Mr Takyi into office amid jubilation by his supporters. At a similar function at Enchi, 40 out of the 42 members of the Aowin-Suaman District Assembly voted to approve the nomination of Mr Kingsley Ofori-Asante as the DCE. Madam Horner-Sam thanked the Assembly Members for giving the President's nominee the nod and said they couldn't have done better since Mr Ofori-Asante had proved to be a capable DCE. She called for unity among members of the Assembly to enable them to plan and complete more development projects for the benefit of the people.
