Apaak fumes over Akufo-Addo’s ‘winner sacks and takes all’ policy

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak has descended heavily on some so called think tanks, pro-democracy activists and institutions over their seeming silence on the manner in which President Akufo-Addo is sacking public servants with flimsy justifications.

In a Facebook post, the worried MP lamented, "We have gone from “winner takes all” to “winner sacks and takes all”. Yet those voices: think tanks, pro-democracy activists and institutions, leaders of moral society, trade union leaders; who saw everything wrong with what they called "winner takes all", today seem to accept "winner sacks and takes all".

He continued, “Indeed change has come. Back then "winner takes all" was dangerous for the future of our democracy. Today, "winner sacks and takes all" is NOT dangerous for the future of our democracy! I'm a citizen!”

Dr. Apaak’s comment follows the recent massive sacking of public servants and officials, some of who were appointed in the immediate past government.

Many people have lost their jobs since Akufo-Addo became the president; the latest casualties are some (100) hundred workers of the Driver, Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA), the medical director of the Ridge Hospital, Dr. Thomas Anaba and a host of others.

The mass sacking of Ghanaian workers have been condemned by many people including the former President, John Dramani Mahama.

In a tweet last Friday, he said, “Bad precedents for our governance. Mass sacking of workers by the NPP gov’t unacceptable. #OneGhana #OnePeople”.

In another tweet minutes later, he said, “These workers are all citizens and like all Ghanaians have rights, which must be protected. #OneGhana #OnePeople”.
