Apaloo for Presidency?

Mr Justice F. K. Apaloo, former Chief Justice has been nominated by the Concerned Cadres Group of Ghana (CCGG) to lead the United Opposition while Prof. Abena Busia, daughter of the late Prime Minister of Ghana has been selected by the group as Justice Apaloo's running mate.

The CCGG suggested the following posts for the United Opposition: General Secretary: Mr Obeng Manu Mr Agyenim Boateng (NPP) and Mr L. A. Tabase (Minister in the Third Republic and member of the PNC), Deputy Gen. Secretaries for the Southern and Northern sectors respectively. National Organiser: Mrs Hawa Yakubu Ogede. Deputy National Organiser (Southern Sector): Mrs Kwesi Pratt Jnr (PPDD) Deputy National Organiser (Northern Sector): Mr Salifu Imoro (NPP)

The group also nominated Ms Christine Churcher, a former PNDC District Secretary but now with the NPP as the Chairperson for the Political Committee of the United Opposition with Nana Akufo-Addo, Dr. V. Antwi Danso and Dr. Gamel Nasser of PPDD as members.

The Economic Committee has DR. Kofi Apraku, Dr. George Yanney, Mr Kwame Pianim and Prof. George Aryittey as the best team.

The CCGG also suggested a Committee of Elders on which Dr Hilla Limann, Prof. Adu Boahen, Mr. Kwabena Donkor, General Erskine and Prof. Naa Afarley Sackeyfio were recommended to serve.

The CCGG's nominations which were made after a careful study of the of the political scene in Ghana is likely to be studied carefully by all the parties involved in setting up the United Opposition for the 1996 elections. The CCGG is made up of a group of 280 ex-cadres.
