Apam (C/R), Jan. 23, GNA - The leadership of Apam Secondary School Old Students Association (ASSOSA), has decided to provide career guidance counseling to students of their alma mater.
The Association has, therefore, chosen Saturday January 29, as home-coming day for the old students to interact with students and tutors of the school.
The theme for the home-coming is: 93Career Counselling - the Key to the Right Career Choices".
Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Apam on Saturday, the President of the ASSOSA, Ms Charlotte Obeng, said the organization had carefully selected the theme which had been the greatest challenge confronting students.
She said there were many job opportunities in the country but because students did not pursue courses, which could make them access such jobs, many of them were roaming the streets crying for jobs.
Ms Obeng said before a student entered Senior High School, he or she must decide on what he or she wanted to be in future and must be helped to know the subjects he or she must pursue to be able to achieve his or her heart's desire.
She said because students were not well updated on career guidance they were most often found wanting.
The ASSOSA President said 10 members of the Association holding key positions in various professions would take turns to brief the students on how they got to those positions.
She said the discussions would be on 93give and take" affairs so the students must feel free to ask the presenters questions.
Ms Obeng said this programme would be made an annual feature to support the teachers in getting the students to make the right choices in career development.
Mr Archibold Kobena Fuah, Headmaster of the School, praised the executives of the Association for their efforts in promoting quality education in the school and the decision to provide the career counseling.
He also acknowledged efforts of the past students in providing infrastructure to complement the existing ones to make students study in enabling environment.
The Headmaster assured that the school would do everything to make the home-coming a success.
