Apart from Dodowa, name one hospital started and completed under Mahama - Dr. Nsiah-Asare to NDC

Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare

The Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, has challenged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to name a single hospital that was started and completed under the John Mahama administration, apart from the Dodowa Hospital.

The NDC continues to tout its achievements in the health sector during Mahama's tenure, which ended in 2016, frequently mentioning that many health facilities were constructed under his administration.

The Mahama administration is often credited with building two brand new teaching hospitals: the 617-bed University of Ghana Teaching Hospital and the second phase of the Tamale Teaching Hospital Expansion Project, adding 400 beds to make it an 800-bed facility, following the initial 400-bed provision under the first phase of the project.

Three institutional hospitals were also constructed: the 500-bed Military Hospital Project in Kumasi, the 104-bed Police Hospital in Accra, and the 130-bed Maritime Hospital in Tema.

Additionally, four regional hospitals were built: the 420-bed Ridge Hospital Expansion Project in Accra, the 250-bed Ashanti Regional Hospital at Sewua in Kumasi, the 295-bed Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, and the 160-bed Upper West Regional Hospital.

Furthermore, seven district hospitals, each with a capacity of 120 beds, were completed at Dodowa, Fomena, Kumawu, Abetifi, and other locations.

Six more district hospitals, with 60-bed capacities, were built in Tepa, Nkawkaw, Konongo, Salaga, Twifo Praso, along with the 100-bed Madina Hospital and the 120-bed Bekwai Hospital.

However, speaking on Accra-based Asaasepa Radio, as monitored by GhanaWeb, Dr. Nsiah-Asare insisted that only one hospital was started and completed by the Mahama administration — the Dodowa District Hospital (Shai Osudoku District Hospital).

"The Akufo-Addo government completed the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC). The frontage of the facility which served as Maternity Block was not completed. This NDC government should name one hospital apart from the Dodowa District Hospital, (Shai Osodoku District Hospital) that they started and completed. There's none. Even the Ridge hospital that they pride themselves with, is uncompleted. There's no OPD at the Ridge Hospital. You still have roofing sheets used in covering the facility, which tells you that the project is still not completed," he stated.
