The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has announced that the final phase of the Appiatse redevelopment project will kick off in October 2024.

This marks a significant milestone in the government's effort to rebuild the community, which was devastated by a deadly explosion in January 2022.

The reconstruction initiative, which has been ongoing for two years, aims to provide modern housing, infrastructure, and essential services for the affected residents.

According to a statement released by the Ministry on Tuesday, 17 September 2024, and signed by Benito Owusu-Bio, Chairman of the Appiatse Reconstruction Implementation Team, the final phase will focus on completing vital infrastructure, including housing units, roads, schools, hospitals, and recreational facilities.

“The Appiatse Reconstruction Implementation Team is set to commence the third and final phase of the redevelopment project in October this year. This phase will complete the resettlement of the affected residents," the statement revealed.

It further assured that the government remains committed to delivering quality infrastructure to improve the lives of the people of Appiatse, with efforts being made to ensure the timely completion of the project.

The Ministry highlighted the importance of collaboration between contractors and local authorities to ensure the project's smooth and successful delivery.

The Appiatse explosion, caused by a truck carrying explosives, resulted in significant loss of life and property, leaving the community in ruins. In response, the government established the Appiatse Support Fund, which has drawn contributions from both local and international donors to finance the reconstruction.
