A former presidential hopeful of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Steven Atubiga, has charged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to appoint a minister of corruption to deal with the spate of graft in the country.

According to Mr Atubiga, the inability of the government to effectively deal with issues of graft raises the need for the appointment of an individual whose sole mandate as minister will be to deal with issues of corruption.

Mr Atubiga revealed that he is willing to renounce his support for the flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama and vote for Nana Akufo-Addo if only his wishes would be granted.

“I think that it is time for him to appoint a minister of corruption in this country because that is the stage we've reached that he needs a minister of corruption. Nana Akufo-Addo needs a minister of corruption, if he can do that for me, I will clap for him and I’m begging him in the name of God. I will come out openly and take a picture of the voting day if Nana Akufo-Addo is able to appoint a minister of corruption, I will vote for Nana Akufo-Addo.

"I'll tell JDM [John Dramani Mahama] that 'I'll not vote for you I wanna put my mouth where my money is...'" Mr Atubiga told Blessed Sogah Host of Class 91.3 FM’s State of the Nation.

Mr. Atubiga is also of the view that corruption is far reaching and, therefore, should not be reduced to only the misuse of public funds.
