Winneba(C/R), Feb.01, GNA - Mr Perry P.K. Ofosu, Assistant Registrar at the Public Affairs Department of the College of Sciences of the University of Ghana, Legon has appealed to Governing Councils of tertiary institutions to employ people with managerial experience and skills to head the institutions.
He said this would ensure academicians within the institutions understand the display of managerial principles and other officials who work under them.
Mr Ofosu, who is also the National Treasurer of the Institute of Public Relations Ghana, made the appeal when addressing the opening session of a four-day workshop for staff of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) on the theme: "Installing The Public Relations Function" at Winneba on Tuesday.
He noted that tertiary institutions were being managed like basic schools and stressed the need for people with managerial skills to take up the mantle of such key positions.
Mr Ofosu said tertiary institutions had become business centres to develop the required human resource base for the country, adding; "The time has come for academicians who see such office as a professorial role to rescind their decisions and employ people with the managerial skills to steer affairs of tertiary institutions."
